Magazine Covers

A magazine cover's purpose is to catch the eyes of those who see them. Therefore, a cover is one of the most important parts of a magazine. They often have the star of an upcoming movie on the cover, most likely to advertise the movie.

This magazine cover from Empire Magazine caught my eye because of the recognizable characters of the Marvel universe. The movie being advertised is "Avengers: Infinity War", which as of writing this, has not hit theaters yet. For this cover, they put some of the lesser-known heroes on the cover like Star-Lord (Center) and Gamora (Left) as well as some of the very-well known heroes like the Hulk (Top Left) and Spider-Man (Center Right). These characters were most likely picked to show diverse cast of characters being brought together for the blockbuster event. The choice of putting characters like Star-Lord and Spider-Man on the cover could also have been put together to sell more alternate covers with the rest of the cast. The contrasting colors could also have been a reason to put these characters together on this cover.

This magazine cover was made to promote the movie "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" in 2017. It presents itself with the question of whether the title was referring to a single last Jedi or multiple Jedi. It also includes the supposed "Last Jedi", Mark Hamill's iconic character Luke Skywalker. This use of the question catches a person's eye.

This magazine cover was made to promote the 2017 movie "Justice League" and features the well-known DC hero "The Flash" played my Ezra Miller. This cover puts the hero front and center on a plain white background to show color and to show The Flash's importance. This cover is an alternate collectible cover, with the other 4 covers featuring the other members of the Justice League to appeal to collectors and as a result, selling more copies of their magazine. It's color contrast, the movie logo, and The Flash's iconic lightning bolt emblem front and center all work in tandem to catch the viewer's eye.

This magazine was made for Disney's convention, D23, and the magazine under the same name. The cover features Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly) to promote the movie "Ant-Man and the Wasp" which is set to hit theaters in July of 2018. The clashing blue of the background and the red and yellow of Ant-Man and Wasp's suits catch the viewer's eye. The entire cover is overall very active with the background almost looking like it's moving. Both heroes are front and center to show the small patterns on their suits.

Finally, the last magazine cover I'll be going over, another one for the movie "Avengers: Infinity War", but this time from Entertainment Weekly. This cover, like the other Infinity War cover and the Flash cover are collectable covers. This is one of the 15 covers, with 22 heroes and the main villain of the film, Thanos, spread across all 15 covers. This cover features Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) from the film "Guardians of the Galaxy" and it's sequel, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2" as well as Okoye (Danai Gurira) from the movie "Black Panther". This cover and the other 14 covers catch the viewer's eye because of the characters being up front and in an action pose. All of the 15 covers when put together makes a large poster showcasing the 23 prominent characters and forms the iconic "A" of the Avengers logo. (Below)
